Students:
The Queer-Straight-Alliance (QSA) will be starting up on Tuesdays next week (September 22nd) in Ms. Verhoog's room during lunch recesses (12:20-12:48)! All members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community are welcome to drop in to gather, play games, and/or help to plan events and activities. If you have any questions, please reach out to any of the following supervising adults: Ms. Verhoog, Mr. Schroeder, Mrs. Routhier, or Ms. Burke
Student Council: For Student Council this year, there will be one room rep from each homeroom. You may have a back-up who can attend the meetings when the room rep is absent.
If you would like to represent for your homeroom in the Student Council, you must be committed to attending the meetings (usually twice a month), organized, good at speaking in front of people (you will have to report to your class and get input from them), and like working in a group. Our goal as a Student Council is to plan some events and give students a voice.
These are the requirements if you would like to be a part of student council:
Submit your name to your homeroom teacher. Prepare a speech to present to your class telling them why you would be a good room rep and why they should vote for you.
Homerooms can select a time to have a mini election to determine their room reps.
Homeroom teachers, please email your room reps to Ms. Chewings by Friday, September 18.
If you have any questions, please speak with Ms. Chewings (Gr. 7) or Mrs. Wiens (Gr. 5). Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 22 at 12:20 in Ms. Chewings' classroom (room 305).
Gr. 5–8 Cross-Country Running
Cross-country runners must submit their permission forms to one of the coaches before participating in after-school runs. On the days you plan to run, meet by the gymnasium right after school and wait to sign in with a coach.
You will run the 2.3K route, coaches will have maps available if needed. We encourage you to run two or three times per week. If you see younger runners on the route, please check that they are doing well. Always check back in with the coaches when you return back in front of the school.
For your safety, stay on the sidewalks and slow down when crossing intersections. When you reach the curves on Rampton Street, run single file while facing traffic, using the left-hand curb lane.

Summer Reading books should be returned to the EMMS library by Friday Sept. 18.

Grade 8 - A new Grade 8 Minecraft club starts on Wednesdays at lunch. It will begin on September 23 in room 108. It is limited to 12 students. The sign-up sheet is outside the office at first recess. Please see Logan Dyck and Dleixine Tapalla for more information.
Grade 7 and 8 boys:
Are you interested in trying out for the volleyball team but want more practice before tryouts? If so, Mrs. Meekis, Mr. Ly, and Ms. Verhoeven will be running volleyball skills practice every Monday and Tuesday at lunch until we start practices. Start time is 12:20. These practices will not be taken into consideration for tryouts but are to help you get your skills ready!
For grade 7 and 8 girls: Are you interested in trying out for the volleyball team but want more practice before tryouts? If so, Ms. Vanstone, Ms. Burke, and Ms. Verhoeven will be running volleyball skills practice every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch for the next month. Start time is 12:20. These practices will not be taken into consideration for tryouts but are to help you get your skills ready!

Blazers soccer will travel together to EDT for a game vs the Dinos. You will be dismissed from class at 3:20 p.m. Please meet by the front office doors for attendance. Change into your soccer gear, except for your cleats, during PM recess. The bus will be waiting in the parking lot at 3:30 p.m.
